The Climate Project, Part 2: Life’s Metabolic Footprint, Earth, & Water

AUDITION & PRODUCTION INFORMATION
The Climate Project is an ongoing project of a full-length Theatre of Metamorphosis, a devised physical-theatre production based on a workshopped segment entitled, Water:Requiem for a Reef, developed for Mannakin Theatre and Dance, San Francisco, with University of Arizona Students from the School of Theatre, Film & Television, 2024.
The full-length Theatrical production will include five sections based on the four elements, Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Life’s Metabolic Footprint.
The next workshop production, on earth, water and life’s metabolic footprint will take place in the Fall of 2025 as part of the 25/26 theatre season.
A full community evening production of The Climate Project is planned for Spring, 2027.

Audition Information & Requirements
Please Note: If you are interested in being in a role that will require use of Trapeze, you MUST be enrolled in the first Summer Session Practicum Course, TAR 394 - 101 Practicum The Climate Project: Trapeze Training for Resilience & Performance., May 19 - July 3, 2025, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, M-F. Not all cast members will use the Trapeze. If you cannot be enrolled this summer you may still be cast.
Casting 12 - 18 physical theatre performers interested in exploring a collaboratively devised production in the style of the Theatre of Metamorphosis, exemplified in the images and video below. Among the 12 - 18, Rick is casting 6 - 9 who will be trained to work with trapeze (read on for more information regarding aerial training*).
Auditions for those interested in aerial work* AND non-aerial will take place together, in the Tornabene Theatre, 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm, Tuesday, April 22 with callbacks on Wednesday, April 30, 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm.
If cast, rehearsals start one week BEFORE the Fall academic session begins: you will need to commit to beginning on Monday, August 18 for seven weeks. This is a requirement of being cast. All students cast, will be enrolled in TAR 497W.
The Production includes *aerial work on trapeze. Casting for the aerial roles has the special requirement of enrolling for a 2025 Summer First Session Practicum course, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm each day: The Climate Project: Trapeze Training for Resilience & Performance in order to be safely trained to create and perform aerial elements of the production. The practicum involves training with professional aerialist, Nate Dryden, and collaborative devising approaches to creation led by Rick Wamer. You will have a short self-assessment essay and participate in creative performance to close the class.
Auditions are open to all current Freshman - Juniors, or Seniors graduating December 2025 or later as per the general audition announcement. You do not need to have taken TAR 149 or 151 to audition for this production.
All cast members auditioning, BA or BFA students, majors or minors, must be enrolled students in Fall 2025 classes.
Preparing for this Audition
As per the General Audition Announcement, please bring a headshot, professional or otherwise to the audition.
For the general ensemble (ALL aspiring cast members whether aerial or not) prepare a 1 - 2 minute movement/dance, image based non-verbal story, or physical demonstration of your choice. Wear long leg coverings and prepare to be working levels from floor to fully standing. Long leg covering is especially important for the trapeze work.
It is advised to engage in core and arm strengthening in preparing for trapeze audition. Pull-ups are always helpful. No other preparation will be necessary.
For callbacks, you may be asked to prepare a short Theatre of Metamorphosis movement piece.

Facing Tides is a documentary film by Clinton Lee Willis, student film-maker at the University of Arizona School of Theatre, Film & Television. The film follows Rick and the cast throughout their journey of creation and the performance process from June - December, 2024. This is a small teaser of what is yet to come.
